Whether you join us for a hands-on Saturday Foray, meet us on a Tuesday afternoon for La Cuisine du Marché,  or contact Laurence to create your very own event--you will experience the Santa Barbara Lifestyle in true insider fashion. Techniques are accessible to all levels of cooking experience, and the ambience is playful.  The ingredients do most of the work, to yield a cuisine that is at once simple and vibrant.

Sustainable Vine Wine Tours

Ongoing and by appointment

www.sustainablevine.com or 805.698.3911

Come aboard our Biodiesel powered Mercedes Sprinter Van and let your mind vacation as we climb the Santa Barbara coastal mountains. As we descend into the Santa Ynez Valley, the rolling hills covered in Oaks signify that we’re in wine country. Within a short and scenic drive you’ll be immersed in Santa Barbara County’s world renowned American Viticultural Areas. Throughout the day we’ll have the opportunity to visit organic and biodynamic vineyards, and their wineries and tasting rooms. Half way through the day we’ll stop at scenic location and enjoy a delicious organic picnic lunch. After lunch the tastings continue. Our experience has taught us that our tours are enhanced when we slow down the process, making each visit a more meaningful and memorable encounter. We typically taste wines from 3 to 4 vintners. At the conclusion of our afternoon we'll return on Coastal Highway 101 which follows the globally unique Gaviota Coastline, one of the last remnants of undeveloped Southern California Coast.

Ansel Adams over Time: Recent Photographic Acquisitions

April 7, 2007 – January 2008

Santa Barbara Museum of Art

This exhibition ranges from early, delicate prints of the 1920s, to Adams’ elegant, widely- recognized images of the Grand Tetons and the Sierra Nevadas originally made in the 1940s, to a heroic mural-size photograph of ranchland in Petaluma from the early 1950s.  Adams once said, “A photograph is usually looked at — seldom looked into.”  But this intimate exhibition encourages its audience to carefully look into each of the photographs and to evaluate Adams’ changing vision over the course of his eighty-two years.  The oldest prints in the exhibition date from Adams’ very early days as a career photographer and present a striking contrast to the more recent prints of the 1970s — of images initially taken in the 1940s — which are some of Adams’ most iconic, including The Tetons and Snake River and Winter Sunrise, Sierra Nevada, from Lone Pine, California.  All images on view are from the Museum’s permanent collection, including several recent acquisitions.
